Tane Mahuta
Tane Mahuata, ou "Seigneur de la forêt" en Maori, est le kauri le plus massif connu. Il se trouve dans la forêt de Waipoua, au Northland, fait 51 mètres et possède un tronc de 13 mètres de circonférence. Son âge est estimé entre 1250 et 2500 ans. Tane Mahuata est en plus l'incarnation du dieu Maori Tane, le dieu des forêts et des oiseaux, et créateur de Tiki, le premier humain.
________ Tane Mahuta, which means "Lord of the forest" in Maori, is the largest kauri known to stand today. We can see it in the Waipoua forest, in the Northland. It is 51 meters high and its trunk girth is 13 meters. Its age is estimated to be betwenn 1250 and 2500 years. The name Tane Mahuta comes from Tane, a god from the Maori pantheon. He is the god of forests and of birds, and he also created Tiki, the first human.
